SIGOURNEY, IA — On November 4, 2025, voters in the Sigourney Community School District did not approve a proposed $9.9 million bond referendum aimed at addressing facility needs at Sigourney Junior/Senior High School.

Unofficial results show the measure received 401 YES votes (52%) and 365 NO votes (48%).

The proposal focused on supporting student learning and well-being through updates to air quality, accessibility, and essential systems, while improving the building’s overall efficiency.

The plan was shaped by broad community input, including 33 local volunteers on the Facilities Advisory Committee, staff, and students.

Superintendent Kevin Hatfield shared the following:

“We appreciate every community member who took time to engage with this process. While the outcome was not what we hoped for, the needs at our Junior/Senior High School remain, and we will continue working to find solutions.”

The district will take time to assess next steps and continue listening to feedback from the community.
